    Written for the "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" Prompt: Write about speaking on an important issue in public for the first time. Having spent all night thinking about it, I knew I was ready to face the day. “Are you sure about this, honey?” Mother asked, looking quite concerned. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a prominent activist and preacher during the Civil Rights Movement. In the aftermath of his violent encounter with Officer Castillo, Justyce decides to write epistolary diary entries to Dr. King, constantly asking himself what the reverend would do in his position.

      Seventeen-year-old black high school senior Justyce McAllister, a full-scholarship student at the virtually all-white Braselton Prep, is the focus. After a bloody run-in with the police when they take his good deed for malice, Justyce seeks meaning in a series of letters with his “homie” Dr. King. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrates the life and civil rights work of Dr. King.
